Cadillac’s Craft Beer Festival Home Brew 2017
After another successful Home Brew Competition in 2016, we are continuing to make improvements to our format. The format last year seemed to go over well with everyone, so this year we are going to keep the two-round format.
PRELIMINARY ROUND – KEY INFO:
WHAT TO ENTER: Any style brew of your choice, 2 (12 oz ) bottles
HOW TO ENTER: Drop off entries at Clam Lake Beer Co.
DEADLINE: Entries must be received before Saturday, July 1st, 2017.
LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON!
ROUND 1: Drop off two, capped & unlabeled (we have labels for you), 12 ounce bottles (or one 22 ounce bottles) of your best brew at Clam Lake Beer Company in Cadillac BEFORE 5pm Saturday, July 1st with your entry form and $5 entry fee. Entries will be kept cold in our coolers until the judging. Labels are to be filled out with stated BJCP style and contact information.
Brews will be judged on aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel, and overall impression. The BJCP score sheet will be the basis of criteria for judging. All entries will be judged and the top 3 home brewers will be selected and announced online on the week of July 10th. Finalists will move on to round 2.

All beers must be labeled with a competition label. These are obtained at registration.
We prefer 12-16 ounce brown bottles, but will accept 11-22 ounce bottles of any color (all bottles must be free of paper labels). Obliterate any lettering or graphics on the cap with a permanent black marker.
Bottles not meeting these requirements may be disqualified. Our primary concern is to ensure the anonymity of the entries when they are being judged.
ROUND 2: Finalists will need to work with the brewer at Clam Lake Beer Co to schedule a time to come in and brew on their system. The Finalists beers will be tapped at Clam Lake Beer Co on Monday, September 18th to undergo a popular vote prior to the Festival on the 23rd. In Addition, their beers will also be on tap during the festival to people who want to try the beers and vote day of. Winner of the final round will be announced during the festival.
This Competition is open to all home brewers aged 21 or older. Contestants must have proof of age. Contestants will be considered an individual entrant based on the name(s) appearing on the entry form.
Applicable entry fees and limitations shall apply. Beer will be judged only in terms of the categories listed in the Style Chart.
(a) Your homebrew must not have been brewed at any place that brews beverages for any commercial purpose, whether for commercial research, production or any other purpose, including brew-on-premises establishments.
(b) Professional brewers are not permitted to enter the competition.
(c) Judges cannot enter categories they are judging.
Awards and Prizes
All beers will be judged against the BJCP Style Guidelines. The top brews overall will be awarded in the following categories: “Best of Show”, “Judges Choice” and “People’s Choice”. The finalists will have their winning brew on tap at Clam Lake Beer Co., and some other great CLBC swag!
Judging in both rounds will be closed to all exhibitors. All decisions by competition organizers are final. Home brewers will be judged on aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel, and overall impression by professional Michigan brewers. Judges will fill out comment cards and home brewers will receive feedback on their entries.
At the discretion of the organizers, entries may be disqualified for eligibility or entry requirement infractions. These entries may still be judged, but will be ineligible for awards or prizes.
All entrants will receive the score sheets with judges’ comments for their entries. Results will be available after winners are announced.
